Care in the making

Good timber.
Considered details.

Handcrafted garden products begin with the timber itself. Its grain, character and the way the pieces fit together all matter — just as much as how the finished piece sits in your garden.

The timber
Selection starts with the piece we’re making, with attention to the timber’s natural character.
The construction
Care in the fit and joinery brings the individual parts together.
The finishing
The surfaces, edges and smaller details are part of the finished piece, not an afterthought.

Living with oak

The natural character
of green oak.

Oak is a natural material, and it keeps changing once it’s in your garden. Here’s what to expect.

Moisture & seasoning
Green oak still holds natural moisture. It continues to season and dry out gradually once it’s outdoors.
Checking & movement
As it dries, small surface checks, cracks and minor movement are normal — part of oak’s character, not a defect.
Silver-grey patina
Left to weather, oak slowly softens from its fresh honey tone to a silver-grey patina.
Natural durability
Oak has a natural resistance to decay, which is why it has long been used outdoors.
Fixings & pegs
We use stainless steel fixings and traditional timber pegs, suited to oak’s natural tannins.
Responsibly sourced
Our oak is responsibly sourced.
Tannin runoff
Fresh oak releases tannins in the rain, which may stain paving and porous stone. Consider placement and protection, especially in the first months.
Installation & care
Set pieces on a level, well-drained base and carry out appropriate maintenance to help them look their best for years.
